Try The Worryin’ Way by The Fabulettes
I have lost 10 pounds in less than a week. Admittedly, some of it was steroid bloat (oh, my friend methylprednisolone inspires me to cooking and eating wackiness). But a good deal was worry, hard worry, and its friend, the hospital hike.
My mom was admitted to the hospital from the ER last week, and there they discovered several large aneurysms throughout her aorta. In the next few days, she’ll have her first surgery. Things I hope you, internet stranger, will never have to go through
- Calling for a paramedic
- Refusing food, water, or smokes to a family member (waiting for an ambulance)
- Riding in an ambulance
- Being moved to the “bigger room” in the ER
- Watching your loved ones say important things to one another because they are rightfully scared
- Choosing a surgeon
- Listening to people tell you that your layoff was a good thing, even though yes, you too are grateful for the freedom to schedule yourself.
Mom is better than she was a week ago–and therefore will be even better for her first surgery. That’s right, there will be more. Wish us luck.
That song up there is about bad romance, and I’m telling you, a break up sounds almost good right now.
